As we get closer to summer and experience warmer days, it’s good to keep some simple tips in your mind.
- In the summer, keep your thermostat at 78 degrees or higher to save money. You use 3 to 5 percent more energy for each degree the air conditioner is set below 78 degrees.
- Set your thermostat 5 degrees higher when leaving your home for an extended period of time. Overall, however, keep the temperature fairly constant. Frequent changes will use more energy.
- On hot days, close window shades and drapes to keep out the heat of the summer sun.
